Movie Review - "Make it Happen"

Lauren Kirk (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead - Final Destination 3) is a small town girl with dreams of getting into the prestigious Chicago School of Music and Dance. When she blows her first audition she refuses to return to her hometown Indiana and ends up doing the books at a burlesque bar called Ruby's. One night a dancer fails to turn up and Lauren takes the opportunity to blaze the stage. She becomes their hottest new burlesque star and continues to strive towards her dream.

This movie is from the co-writer of "Step Up" and "Save the last Dance." These two titles alone will give you an idea of the age group this movie targets, namely teenie boppers. I can't help but recognise the lack of nudity and authenticity in terms of burlesque dance and believe the movie had to stay within the confines of its rating M. I was disappointed there was no real attempt at strip-tease and no pasties! Sacrilege. I believe the creators should have aimed for rating MA+ to give the movie validity and not influence younger girls to exhibit their bodies at such a young age.

There is one scene where Lauren performs the splits in a handstand reflected between two mirrors, that knocked my socks off! Otherwise I was left feeling disappointed in the quality of the dancing.

The original essence of Burlesque has been been distorted by modern day interpretations (like this movie) and the influence of pop culture. Performers like "The Pussycat Dolls" have contributed to the confusion about what burlesque really is. The word burlesque actually means 'to imitate' or 'send up,' and the traditional shows included a variety of different acts inbetween such as comedy or circus. Im sick of mindless burlesque performances with no sense of class or lasting message. The overall quality and standard of Burlesque today has suffered and needs a traditional revival!

Miley Cyrus Warping our Youth

Miley Cyrus danced on a pole on top of an icecream cart in her show at the Teen Choice Awards 2009. This definately sends out the wrong message to young girls who haven't even reached puberty! She has no sense of responsibility to her fans.

Half-Stripper, Half-Parrot

Fact: The rabbit and the parrot are the only two animals that can see everything behind themselves without turning their head around.

When a stripper flashes their merchandise it helps to have eyes in the back of your head (to make sure your customer is behaving himself). We have to be half-stripper and half-parrot to keep those boys in check.

Bustle your Hustle

Hustling skills make the difference between a rich stripper and a broke-ass stripper.

1. Touch the guy's arm when you talk to him and ask him things like, "Do you want to play with me in the back room." (He will immediately think he's got the upperhand, little does he know). Do this rather than asking for a "dance."

2. Draw his attention down to your breasts by adjusting your costume. As soon as he gets a glimpse at your cleavage, he'll be putty in your hands and easier to persuade.

3. Try all of these techniques first. If they don't work, then offer him a 'test drive' dance for one song with the first $20 he spends (Buy two and get one free). Make sure he gives you $20 before you start and give him the last song for free. When you finish, say something like "I was just getting started. Do you want to keep playing with me?" When he gives you more money say something like, "Good. I didn't want to put my clothes on yet."

Channing Tatum was a Ripper Stripper!

Channing Tatum is famous for his dancing in the movie "Step Up" and more recently starred in "G.I. Joe." Tatum's secret past as a stripper has leaked out. When he was 18 years old he passed some time in a Chippendale-like club called Male Encounter in Florida. This video shows him stripping down to his jocks and getting the ladies to squeal. Personally I'm not attracted to any male stripper and find women more alluring to watch.

Australian Stripper allegedly rapes 'best man' with a pink strap-on dildo

Buck's nights often get out of control and this case is no exception. A 40-year old stripper, Linda Maree Naggs allegedly strapped on a pink dildo and inserted it into the best man's anus during an XXX rated show. She's been a professional dancer for 13 years and pleaded not guilty, claiming it was "accidental rape."

The alleged victim said, "I knew that there was something wrong down there."

The alleged rape took place in a house in Mornington on September 24, 2007. A County Court jury will decide the verdict. A medical examination showed a small abrasion near the victim's anal verge that was ‘‘most likely caused by blunt trauma.’’

Judge Tim Wood is presiding over the trial.
